6.3 magnitude earthquake hits Panama and Nicaragua
There had been no official reports of damage or fatalities in either country
An earthquake with a magnitude of at least 6.3 hit Panama and Nicaragua on Thursday, earthquake observers in both countries reported.
In Panama, the earthquake was reported Thursday at the border with Costa Rica, said the Institute of Geosciences of the University of Panama. The depth of the quake was 10 kilometers (6.2 miles), the institute said.
Meanwhile, a magnitude 5.2 earthquake with a depth of 23 kilometers (14 miles) was reported southwest of Jiquilillo, Nicaragua, according to Nicaragua’s National Earthquake Monitor.
There had been no official reports of damage or fatalities in either country.
