More than 300 surfers from 17 countries will participate in the PASA 2022 Games in Playa Venao, Panama. Olympians and South American and Pan American champions will take part in this event which will be broadcast live on Panam Sports Channel from August 7-13.

PLAYA VENAO, PANAMA (August 5, 2022) — “A paradise where the sea meets the jungle” will be the stunning setting for the 2022 Pan American Surfing Games. Playa Venao, located on the Pacific coast of Panama‘s Azuero Peninsula, will host the event.

The best surfers in the Americas will arrive to participate in the most important continental competition of the year.

In total, more than 300 surfers from 17 nations will participate: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico, Uruguay and Venezuela.

Favorites among the continent’s most notable surfers are teams from Brazil, Argentina and Peru. Stars such as longboard world champion Piccolo Clemente and Olympians Miguel Tudela and Lucca Mesina will ride their boards for Peru. Other Tokyo 2020 Olympians such as Mimi Barona of Ecuador, Manuel Selman of Chile and Lele Usuna of Argentina are also favorites at the event.

“It’s the Olympic way for all surfers. They have to participate in Santiago 2023 first, and before that they have to participate in the qualifying championship next year. This championship in Playa Venao establishes the countries in the regional classification for the next year, the preparation of the series is according to the classification. We have a great starting list and we are very happy with it,” said Karin Sierralta, president of the Pan American Surfing Association.

PASA Games 2022 begins on Sunday August 7 with the opening ceremony followed by the official competitions on Monday August 8-13.

Many of the surfers who will be competing also took part in the Panam Sports Training Camp held in conjunction with PASA in Punta Rocas, Peru. There, the athletes were able to share their experiences and improve their techniques thanks to exceptional coaches who came from all over the continent to fully prepare them for this championship. For the very first time, the 2022 edition of this event will be broadcast live across the Americas and around the world on the Panamanian sports channel.
